History Of National Sports Day
Many people consider the field hockey player Major Dhyan Chand to be the best to have ever existed in the legacy of this sport. Dhyan Chand was born to a Kushwaha Rajput household on August 29, 1905, in Allahabad, India. He was Rameshwar Singh’s and Sharadha’s son. Two brothers, Mool Singh and Roop Singh were born to Dhyan Chand. The latter, a hockey player as well, was a part of the Indian field hockey team that represented India and took home gold medals from the Olympic Games in 1932 and 1936. The Father of Chand participated in the hockey team while serving in the British Indian Army. Chand had a reputation for having excellent ball control and a knack for winning games. In seven out of the eight Olympics from 1928 to 1948, India won the field hockey competition.
In 185 matches between his domestic and international careers, Chand scored 570 goals, as per his autobiography, while playing globally from 1926 to 1949. The Indian government gave him the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian honor in the nation, during the same year he stepped down from the army with the title of major. In 2012, India created National Sports Day to commemorate his birthday. The celebration’s goals are to pay tribute to the legendary athlete and raise public understanding of the importance of sports in daily life, with a particular emphasis on fitness and wellness. On this day, the President of India presents notable sports figures with the Khel Ratna, Arjuna Awards, Dronacharya Awards, and Dhyan Chand Awards. In December, Dhyan Chand kicked the bucket.
