Earth Day 2022 – Friday, April 22! Earth is the only livable planet on earth for human beings like us until discovered otherwise. Since 1970, Happy Earth Day is annually celebrated on April 22 in more than 193 countries.

History of Earth Day:

A US Senator known as Gaylord Nelson was the mastermind who sparked the initiative to start the celebration of the day. As he witnessed the massive oil spill in Santa Barbara and the destructive effects of the spill in 1969, he felt the need to take action. So, he invited all Americans to take a hardcore stance against such destructive ways to the environment in the year 1970. Many universities, colleges, and people of all walks of life joined him in the peaceful protest which only sought to ensure healthy sustainable earth.

Earth day was started to stop and protest any sort of environmental damage whether be it air pollution, water pollution, forest destruction, etc. The celebration of the first earth day rightly deserved the title of the movement which sparked many modern-day environmental movements. Nowadays it is considered the planet’s largest civic event. The UN modified the earth day name to International Mother Earth Day on the year 2009.
