National Armed Forces Day 2023 – Saturday, May 20 (Happy Armed Forces Day): History, Significance, Facts, Celebration Ideas, Wishes & Quotes! The National Armed Forces Day is celebrated annually on each year’s 3rd Saturday of May in the US which happens to be on the 16th of May this year. It’s a special holiday for the people who work in the Armed Forces since they get showered with respect and gratitude. It takes place during each year’s Armed Forces Week. Because of its recent integration under the Department of Defense, the formation of a single-day celebration for all five branches of the United States military made sense.

History of National Armed Forces Day:

The then Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson declared on 31st August of 1949 that there should be a single holiday for celebrating all branches of the military. However, the first celebration didn’t happen in the same year of the declaration. On 20th May 1950, Armed Forces Day was celebrated for the first time. In the year 1962, President John F. Kennedy established Armed Forces Day as an official holiday to be celebrated across the country.

Join in on a parade

National Armed Forces Day is a day that is celebrated with parades that are arranged to honor the people in the military service. Some other celebratory manners accompany the parades. If you want to participate in a celebration join the local parade event nearby.

Visit a public military display

Military or government personnel tend to set up historical or educational displays for the public on this occasion. Such a visit tends to be enjoyable and insightful. It’s also a wonderful opportunity for civilians to interact with military personnel.
