Al-Hijri 1445: Islamic New Year 2023 will begin on the Evening of Tuesday, Jul 18, 2023 – Wednesday, Jul 19, 2023! The Islamic New Year begins with the migration of Prophet Muhammad and his companions from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD after they were persecuted and attacked recurrently. Hijra is an Arabic word that denotes migration. It is the first day of the Islamic calendar and commemorates Muhammad (SAW) and his companions’ migration from Mecca to Madina. It is observed by Muslims all over the world. This year, Al-Hijra is observed on July 30. In Islam, the day is an incredibly blessed day. The day is celebrated annually at the beginning of the Islamic month of Muharram.
Because the Islamic calendar is premised on lunar cycles, it does not necessarily occur on the exact same date each year. The Hijra was a major historical event that marked a turning point in Islamic history. Following the Hijra, the early Muslims grew stronger and more authoritative. The Hijri calendar was established during Umar Ibn-Khilafah Khattab’s (successorship) (RA). Umar (RA) turned down several other recommendations for the outset of the Islamic calendar, such as Muhammad’s birth and death (SAW). “Because the Hijrah has isolated truth from falsehood, let it become the Epoch of the Era,” he said.
History Of Al-Hijri
Islam is a peaceful religion. It is based on the concepts of the Quran, Islam’s holy book. The Quran is thought to be God’s word to Prophet Muhammed via his angel. The emergence of Islam facilitated trade and the spread of art, literary works, scientific knowledge, and Islamic tradition. Islam is the world’s most rapidly expanding religion. Some nations have Islam as their official religion, and they adhere to Islamic guidelines and norms, for instance, the Islamic calendar. Umar ibn Al-Khattab devised the Islamic calendar. He premised the migration’s happenings at the beginning of the calendar. After receiving his first revelation from Allah via the archangel Gabriel, the Prophet Muhammed began preaching Islam.
He was persecuted for preaching against the mainstream religions of the time. But his conviction in God was solid, as was his will. His teachings quickly became popular, and his followers quickly grew. As Islam’s power grew, Prophet Muhammed moved from Mecca to Medina to establish the world’s first Islamic state. This was one of the major moments in the growth and expansion of Islam. But this isn’t the first Hijra. Some of Prophet Muhammed’s disciples emigrated to the Christian Kingdom of Aksum in 613 A.D. Ethiopia and Eritrea are part of the region today. The intention of this event, known as the Migration to Abyssinia, was to flee the oppression of Mecca’s ruling Quraysh tribe.
The Significance of The Hijri
The Hijrah sparked hope in the heart and souls of the early Muslims, who set a wonderful example for all Muslims of all generations to follow. The significance of hijrah extends beyond Islamic history and Muslims. The hijrah not only revamped the Arab Peninsula both socially and politically, but it also made an impact on global civilizations. Throughout the evolution of Islam, migration served as a dividing line between two significant epochs in terms of the message of Islam: the era of Makkah and the era of Madinah. In actuality, this represented a shift from one phase to the next, as follows:
- Transition, most notably for early Muslims, to a phase wherein Islam, was not only a ritual of worship but also a way of life. This included politics, the economic system, interpersonal relationships, and virtually every other aspect of daily life. This marked the first time when Islam had been regarded as a complete religion.
- The transition from the position of a tiny group of individuals surrounded by adversaries and threatened with annihilation to that of a regional power with powerful centralized leadership. This was one that had a huge number of admirers and allied forces.
- Transform from a simple Islamic group of believers to an Islamic nation. This was a well-organized Islamic state with a clear command and other structures.
- The transition of Da’wah from regionalism to internationalism, with a focus solely on Quraysh and the tribal groups encompassing Makkah. This was the point at which the Muslim State started to approach to Persia, Egypt, and the Byzantine Empire.
- The transition from a position of weakness, where non-believers in Makkah, especially the people of Quraysh, disrespected, tormented, and brutally murdered Muslims, to one of security. This is where Muslims were permitted to defend themselves and thwart their opponents.
- The state launched the transition from spreading Islam via individual Da’wah (inviting others to Islam) to spreading Islam via institutionalized Da’wah.
In summary, the hijrah focuses on teaching that wherever Muslims go, they should bring some good with them. Muslims must work for the moral and material well-being of society.

Why We Love Al-Hijra
Hijrah was a physical journey between two cities about 200 miles apart, but it branded the commencement of an era, a civilization, a culture, and a background for all of humanity. Islam advanced not only as a result of the physical hijrah but also as a result of Muslims taking hijrah sincerely in all of its facets and dimensions. Hijrah is essentially a process of moving to a better situation. It is not designed to find a comfortable location where one can loosen up and stop striving. Rather, it is a quest for a more conducive environment for continuous and constructive effort.
Upon his arrival in Madinah, the Prophet began an all-encompassing process to create a fiercely loyal and bold society. This is an essential part and piece of advice to take lessons from Hijrah. Today is a lucky day. We appreciate it when people set aside a day for prayer. The Islamic New Year begins with Al-Hijra. We absolutely adore a fresh start, and a New Year’s Eve celebration is magical. The New Year begins with fresh starts. There will be presents, parties, and celebrations. We enjoy giving and receiving gifts. We are glad to be part of the celebration of such a significant event for our Muslim friends across the world.
